Lessen the enemy by 2010, stay apolitical until 2010 and beyond,’ Marquez says
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has identified and set two definite targets and goals as the nation braces for 2010 national elections.
First off, according to Captain Lowen Gil Marquez, the AFP hierarchy is determined and focused on its direction leading to offensives that will lessen the State’s enemies.
While at it, Captain Marquez added, the AFP is also bent on staying apolitical be it on the 2010 electoral exercise and beyond.
“The AFP will stay on its course to lessen the enemy by 2010. And we are not going to mingle nor get involved in the political noise which keeps on destabilizing our democracy,” he said.
Marquez is the commanding officer of the AFP’s 3rd Civil Relations Group.
His statement came amidst concerns of AFP loyalty particularly with continued attacks of the opposition to the administration of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
“We remain committed to our duty and mission which is to serve and protect our country and the people. We remain committed to our targets in order to put a stop to the criminal and destabilizing acts of the enemies of the State. The public can be assured of that,” Marquez ended.
To note, government offensives has since been continued in areas considered as “enemy strongholds,” particularly from communist terrorist groups.
